Residents facing double voting day on June 4, says the latest issue of the Borough News.
Doesn't that sound rather negative? As if they were facing the credit crunch or power cuts or cold showers?

People should welcome a double voting day! You have a double chance to make your mark, to make your views count.

You can look at the l
eaflets, websites, newspapers and broadcasts and decide which party's views most closely match your own. What issues are most important to you? Which candidates do you think could bring about the best future, not only for yourself but for this county or country?

Your vote matters. You are using your democratic right to express an opinion about how we should be governed.

Yes, it is anonymous, and yes, you are only one of thousands voting, but it all adds up.

Votes for parties which are unlikely to win matter too, because they show that those views should also be taken into account.

And in the European elections we have a system of proportional representation, which gives smaller parties a better chance.

Finally, it's very easy to vote. Your polling station is probably within walking distance of your house. Welcome the chance for exercise! You may not go into that building on other occasions. Welcome the experience!

And the polling stations are open from 7am to 10pm so you can almost certainly find the time. Welcome the departure from routine!

Enjoy voting on June 4.

Right now people will be receiving copious mailings from those hoping to win a seat in the European Parliament.

Could I suggest that if they are accustomed to using the internet that they look at www. votewatch.eu/cx

There they will find out just how active, or inactive the present group of MEPs have been.

The attendance of some is appalling and others have voted against the interest of Britain!

A few of them have published their incomes and expenses. It all makes interesting reading.

Can we expect to hope that we could have the same level of transparency about the activity and voting habits of our MPs in the same simple form?
