The announcement last week that Northern Rail has submitted plans from December 2009 to extend the Summer Sunday rail service to year round on the Yorkshire Wolds Coast Line linking Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington with Hull and improve the weekday timetable after 3pm is great news.
It is a bold move, in these challenging times. This good news will be appreciated by local people and commerce.

Last December, many local organisations and individuals responded to the Network Rail Route Utilisation Strategy for Yorkshire and the Humber, all highlighting their interest in an improved rail services for work, new housing, new businesses park and jobs, access to health service provision, education, leisure, and tourism.

Usually, comments to such documents come mainly from regional organisations, rail interest groups and councils with a public transport remit.

With this announcement the whole community feels a part.

Rail usage has been growing rapidly, but many made a special effort to support the local trains this summer following Northern Rail’s September Summer Sunday trial extension.

When there is so much gloomy news around, this planned investment is great news for the Wolds and Yorkshire Coast.
