RE the new sports facility proposed for Scarborough.
I am very pleased to see that Scarborough is going to get a new facility, but totally dismayed at the fact that, yet again, Filey has to miss out!

At present, Scarborough has many football pitches, Oliver's Mount for example, two sports centres at
Filey Road and Eastfield and a swimming pool on the north side.

What's to stop the council from developing Oliver's Mount into a football stadium for Scarborough Athletic or renovating the stadium in Seamer Road. No matter how much it costs it will not be any more than the proposed new facility at Weaponness car park.

There is nothing wrong with the two sports centres Scarborough has that a few thousand pounds could not be spent to bring them up to a better standard if that is what is needed.

Filey, on the other hand, has NO football stadium and not one serviceable football pitch, NO sports centre, and a near-derelict swimming pool which has NO public sessions. There have been discussions with SBC, Filey Town Council and North Yorkshire County Council to rectify this for many years, and although they all agree we need a new sports centre and swimming pool, to date nothing has been done to bring this to fruition.

My question to Scarborough Council has to be: when will you take Filey seriously and treat us as part of the same borough? The borough council owns a lot of land and property which once belonged to the parish of Filey. Some of this could be sold to pay for a new sports centre. We pay our taxes to Scarbor- ough Council just the same, but never seem to get the same treatment!

Filey Boys and Girls FC had to raise £1 million to develop new football pitches. SBC, Filey Town Council and NYCC all contributed financially, which was greatly welcomed, but that is the total input that has gone to help bring Filey into the 21st century.

Filey is a holiday town and a new sports facility would be ideal for not just for the local residents, but visitors alike.
