Business is booming in Filey

‘Filey is open for business!’
That’s the message from new store owner Susan Jenkinson, who is the latest trader to open up the shutters to a new business in the town.
Her arts and crafts store in Hope Street is the latest venture to defy the economic downturn, and is another branch of hope for business owners in Filey to cling on to, after a woeful 2012.
She said: “We have had great support from the local community, and are supporting the local economy by supplying local artists.
“But it’s not just about the summer, we want to be available to locals.”
Last year, numerous shops and businesses closed their doors, and traders said reasons such as poor transport links and the tightening of purses were to blame for the demise of the town’s high street.
Cllr Marion Wright was devastated after the spate of closures last year, and said the site of closed down shops is “depressing”.
However, she is ecstatic about the recent resurgence of Filey Town Centre, adding: “It’s a positive move for Filey because it helps to give us variety, and it keeps people here longer, which is what we need.
“There’s nothing worse than people walking past empty shops, so this is marvellous.”
