A GROUP of writers from Hunmanby have 'made their mark' for the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) – Forces Help.
The eight amateur scribes, led by Carole- Anne Withers, have put together a collection of light-hearted stories, poems and limericks, plus several true life stories of local wartime heroes.

The collection – called 'Ink and Ideas' – has a foreword written by Lord Crathorne, the Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, and is being sold on behalf of SSAFA to raise money for the charity.

Hunmanby Writers' Group, which was launched in May 2006, meet twice-monthly at Mrs Withers' house in Hungate Lane where they read homework and carry out and discuss on-the-spot writing exercises.

"We've already sold over 200 copies and are printing hundreds more, such has been the demand," she said. Mrs Withers, whose husband Mike is a voluntary case worker for SSAFA, has also provided illustrations for the book, which she urges people to buy.

"Please support this worthy charity and help our troops and their families, young and old," she said.

Copies are available from The Royal British Legion in Scarborough, Alliance Pharmacy in Bridlington Street, Hunmanby, and Hunmanby Library in Stonegate.

SSAFA-FH will also have a stall at the Hunmanby in Bloom Christmas Fayre on Saturday, November 29, where books will be available and visitors can meet some of the writers.
