MEMBERS of Hunmanby Women's Institute tucked in to a special cake to celebrate the group's 70th anniversary.
The group, which meets at Hunmanby Community Centre, has 20 members including Vera Foreman, who has been with the WI for over 70 years.

The cake was provided by Barbara Elliott of Crossgates, a professional cake decorator, who gives demonstrations at Hunmanby WI meetings.

Norma Hutchinson, group president, said: "The anniversary meeting was really nice – friendly and fun. We had wine and cake and a representative from Marie Curie cancer care came to talk to us."

She added that the group takes part in various initiatives and said: "A lot of people don't realise what we do – there is more to the WI than meets the eye!

"As part of the East Riding Federation we have campaigned nationally on many vital issues –examples are better child care services and improved staff training for looking after the elderly.

"At the moment we are involved in the carbon challenge initiative, which looks at measuring your personal carbon use."

Hunmanby WI are always looking to welcome new members. For details contact group secretary Vicky Smith on (01723) 891331.
