LIBRARIES across North Yorkshire – including Filey and Hunmanby – are gearing up for a month-long celebration of reading.
February has been declared Bookstart month by the county
council's libraries and information service, with the aim of encouraging children to develop a love of books and reading.

All libraries will be offering a programme of activities designed to offer children and their parents the chance to discover the joy of reading together.

Among the events on offer are "jungle"-themed storytimes, rhyme-time sessions, and a competition to design a bookmark.

All libraries will also have a special Bookstart display to give parents and carers an idea of the wide variety of suitable books available
for young children.

And every new member under the age of five will receive a free book while stocks last.
