A HOLIDAYMAKER spotted this unusual visitor to Filey beach.
Margaret Moss said her grand-daughter Catherine saw the newt on a recent visit.

"We were so surprised to see it there as I thought these creatures preferred a freshwater habitat," she said.

"I have tried to identify it by various means but the only one that looks anything like it is an Alpine newt, which is usually found - as its name suggests - in the Alps or central Europe but never in Britain."

If anyone is able to identify the creature, please contact the Mercury on (01723) 383801.
