A WOMAN who was born and bred in Filey and came from a well-known fishing family has died.
Florence Margaret Patricia Blakeborough (née Pearson), who had also been to school in Filey, was 88 years old.
She was one of four girls and three brothers but the brothers were all killed while serving on HMS Hood in the Royal Navy in 1941 and their names are on a memorial in Portsmouth.
She married Raymond, an engineer, in 1944 and they had two sons. They met while she was serving in the land Army and he was with an anti-aircraft unit in Filey. They used to live in West Road after starting their married life in Queen Street.
He died about 20 years ago and she then later moved to Flowergarth.
Latterly, she had been a resident of the Silver Birches care home in Filey but moved to a nursing home in Portsmouth near to one of her sons following a stroke.
A private funeral was held in Portsmouth but there will be a celebration of her life at the Downcliffe House Hotel in Filey next Saturday.
Her relatives will be bringing her ashes and they will be scattered on Filey Brigg.
