A ROBOT football game and an egg parachute challenge were just two of the fun activities hosted by Filey School during National Design and Technology Week.
Pupils were set various technology-themed exercises for the week – with mixed results.
Ray Irwin, assistant headteacher and director of design and technology, said: “We set a challenge involving a robot arm where students had to manoeuvre it to pick up an object and then place it in a designated area.
“It was interesting to watch the difficulty some had with co-ordination, but it was otherwise very well received.”
Mr Irwin added: “Another test was the egg parachute challenge, where pupils were put into teams and had to design and make a parachute to support an egg.
“They then had to drop them from the second storey of the school building and hope the egg would not break on impact.”
The activities marked the start of a busy period for the youngsters, as 26 students from Years 9 and 10 are heading to the Yorkshire Air Museum in Elvington next week to compete in various competitions.
A selection of coursework by GCSE and Key Stage 3 pupils has also been put on display at Filey’s Evron Centre.
