MEMBERS of Filey Allotment and Garden Association are getting ready for their combined open day and show next week.
The annual event, which takes place next Saturday, will be held at the allotment site for the first time, having previously been staged at St John’s Church.
Secretary Diana Lawton is hoping for a bumper turnout. She said: “The day will give local plot holders and gardeners the chance to have a go, look around the site and chat to allotmenteers.
“We are trying to make the event more informal and practical to encourage more people to join in.”
Attractions include various stalls, a gardeners’ question time and a guest appearance by Nigel Harrison of BBC Radio York, plus musicians Tony Turner and Amay Huntly.
Show classes include a junior class for miniature gardens in a standard-sized seed tray. Entry to all classes is free and staging is from 8am to 10am.
Brochures are available from the library, the Evron Centre and the allotment shop.
The event will be open to the public from 11am to 4pm but, for health and safety reasons, no parking is allowed at the site.
Organisers still have 10 free tables available for charities on a first come first served basis. To book a table call (01723) 516599 or (01723) 506324.
