A FILEY nursing home is celebrating completing a hat-trick of excellent ratings following its annual service review.
Ackworth House, based in The Beach, has maintained its three-star quality rating after the review by the Care Quality Commission.

Nurse manager Sue Ladyman said: "It is a great achievement for the home and it is something we are very proud of. All the staff work extremely hard to keep up our high standard of care and it is a credit to them."

The news coincides with the completion of a new 12 ensuite bedroom extension, which also includes two new sluice rooms, another large bathroom equipped with a new bath and transfer chair along with more wetroom facilities with a shower trolley.

This means the home can now care for people with an even wider range of needs.

Director Peter Bradney said: "We are really proud of the work that has been done. We have been highly committed to providing a high standard of care in a pleasant environment for residents."

It has been a bittersweet few weeks for the home as it recently lost its longest-serving resident – Kitty the cat, who had been at Ackworth House for around 20 years.

Last year Kitty made local headlines when she went missing, only to turn up a week later at the Blue Dolphin holiday park in Gristhorpe.

Sue Bradney, a director at the home, said: "Everyone misses having her around as she was such a lovely cat."
