The all-weather lifeboat Keep Fit Association was launched last Sunday night after the 45ft Yacht, called JALESQ, experienced problems five miles south-east of Filey on passage from Hull to Inverness.
The poor weather conditions and no wind preven
ted the skipper from sailing to Scarborough.
Due to engine fumes being emitted and the very poor weather conditions, the skipper decided to ask for assistance.
Visibility was 50 metres or less at times but the Filey lifeboat crew located the yacht very quickly using radar and direction finding equipment.
There were two people onboard from the Notting-ham area.
Filey Lifeboat coxswain, Barry Robson said "It was important in view of the very poor weather conditions that we located the yacht as quickly as possible. This was done and we towed the boat to Scarborough.
"The gentlemen involved were very appreciative of the service given by the Filey Lifeboat Station and its crew."
The alarm was the latest in a number of incidents involving Filey lifeboat in recent weeks.
Last month a security guard at Primrose Valley holiday park raised the alarm when he saw a man in his 20s out of his depth in the sea and bobbing in and out of the water, shouting for help.
The coastguard, both the Filey lifeboats and a rescue helicopter from RAF Leconfield were summoned.
While the all-weather boat prepared to launch, the inshore crew consisting of Neil Cammish, Neil Mason and Tom Barkley found him and Mr Barkley went into the water to recover the man with the help of the other crew members.
And in April, lifeboat and coastguard teams staged a dramatic rescue of a holidaymaker who was moments away from drowning in the sea, also near Primrose Valley.
- Two of Filey Lifeboat's most dedicated volunteers were recently honoured at an awards ceremony at York Racecourse.
Gillian Wilson, an active member of the Ladies' Lifeboat Guild for 30 years, was presented with a Gold Badge, while chairman of the management committee, David Wilson, received a Silver Badge.
