FILEY'S MP John Greenway is refusing to comment after full details of his expense claims were released.
Mr Greenway, 63, billed the taxpayer for items including:

- a toilet brush

- a matchbox

- four bags of compost

- 8 mulled wine sachets

The latest round of revelations also show he claimed £1,496 a month in mortgage payments, up to £300 a month on food and around £200 a month on petty cash for his office.

All claims for food and petty cash of up to £250 are exempt from receipts under the current system.

As previously revealed by the Daily Telegraph, the long-serving Tory MP, who will not be standing for re-election, spent £3,500 on household goods and furnishings and £500 on plants before selling his previous second home for a reported profit of £282,000

However, he has not claimed for any household goods since the 2006-07 financial year.

Mr Greenway, who was in hospital this week for the removal of a tumour on his left leg, was said to be "deeply saddened and disappointed" by the way the Telegraph had chosen to "sensationalise" his claims, which have now been released in full.

The MP also claimed for three replacement toilet seats at a cost of £135 and a £24 toilet brush.

Other items include refuse sacks worth £1.29 and a £3.99 mousetrap, part of a bill at a garden centre, as well as decorating costs.

In November 2004 Mr Greenway also charged the taxpayer £303 for a dining set and a shower curtain.

He also claimed for a box of matches worth 59p as well as two boxes of firelighters worth 99p each, four bags of compost, a trellis and plant food.

Under Commons rules, MPs are only able to claim for garden maintenance bills.

Mr Greenway claimed more than £1,900 to redecorate the hall, kitchen, bathroom and stairs in 2004-05 and 2005-06.

Mr Greenway has been unavailable to comment since the recent revelations were made public.

He has previously told the Mercury: "I am deeply saddened and disappointed that the Daily Telegraph should have chosen to sensationalise my expense claims as part of their ongoing revelations about MPs allowances."
