TWO people have been arrested in Filey after the UK Border Agency carried out operations targeting illegal working.
Acting on intelligence, immigration officers conducted an illegal working operation at the Ocean Treasure restaurant in Union Street in Filey on Wednesday June 17.

Officers questioned those inside and checked their documents to see if they were entitled to work.

Two Chinese nationals were arrested and then taken into Scarborough police custody for detention.

The owner of the Ocean Treasure was served with a notice of potential liability in relation to the alleged illegal workers.

The employer has 28 days to provide evidence that the correct right-to-work checks were carried out or face a fine of up to £10,000 per illegal worker

Jeremy Oppenheim, regional director of the UK Border Agency in Yorkshire, Humber and the North East, said: "We will not tolerate illegal working in Filey or anywhere else – it undercuts British wages and exploits vulnerable workers.

"As long as there are illegal jobs, the UK will be an attractive place for illegal immigrants.

"That's why we have to put a stop to employers who don't play by the rules."
