FILEY School remains a popular place with pupils and parents, with 94 per cent of children in the school's catchment area making it their first choice.
Once again there are fewer applicants than the number of places available – but this is largely due to the additional places created to cater for the expected influx of students from the proposed new housing development off Muston Road.
Of the 12
8 children available from catchment primary schools – namely Filey Juniors, Hunman- by, Hertford Vale and Sherburn – 120 have chosen Filey School as their secondary school.
In addition, 12 students from outside the catchment area have chosen Filey School, bringing the total to 132.
Headteacher Lorraine Gill said: "We are pleased our school remains a popular choice. Numbers of children in our catchment primaries are on a downward trend, which will continue for several years before numbers go up again.
"Our admission limit was increased to 172, owing to a planned 300-house development which is now on ice.
"Our admission limit for 2011 is 150. In three years' time we expect numbers to return to 150 plus."
This year more than nine out of 10 parents secured their first secondary school preference in North Yorkshire.
This is higher than many other places in the country and a slight improvement on last year.
County Cllr Jim Clark, North Yorkshire's executive member for schools, said: "We are delighted so many of our families have been able to gain their first preference from their choice of schools.
"As a local authority we work with schools across the county to make sure all of them deliver the highest standards of education so that families who are not given first preferences will nevertheless be able to send their children to good schools."
