ABOUT 100 properties in Hunmanby were hit by a power cut which struck late on Thursday and lasted until lunchtime the next day.
Engineers could not repair the problem at night, leaving many residents without electricity and shivering in freezing temperatures.

When power was finally restored, it was only a temporary fix and engineers have been working on underground cables in Hungate Lane and Fountayne Road all week.

The power cut affected homes and businesses on Bardney Road, Bridlington Street, Fountayne Road, Garton Lane, Hungate Lane, Veterinary Close and Vicar- age Close.

To ensure the health and safety of vulnerable elderly residents while supplies were off, electricity company YEDL took a generator to Barclay House care home in Bridlington Street.

A spokesman for YEDL said the problem was caused by a fault on underground cable and they had to be dig out the cable and carry out repairs in daylight. “We apologise for the disruption, which we tried to repair as quickly as possible.”
