ORGANISERS of Filey Sailing Club's open day have hailed the event a great success.
More than 80 people attended the event last Saturday to try out activities including sailing, windsurfing and kayaking – and several signed up to join the club.

Director James Whitehead said: “Eighty-three people came and had a go, which is excellent, and a lot of those were kids which is pleasing as well.

“A lot of people phoned up to book a place beforehand but there was plenty who just turned up on the day. It’s hard to pick out anything in particular but kayaking and windsurfing proved especially popular.

“Everybody seemed to really enjoy it and a few people have become members of the club which was the main point of the day really.”

The club’s thoughts will now turn to this year’s Regatta next weekend when more than 175 boats from all over the country are expected to set off from the bay.

It will be the first time the event has been held in Filey since 2006, as organisers were forced to cancel the 2007 Regatta due to the floods.
