Ryan Blott has ended a nine-year love affair with Scarborough Athletic by joining NCEL side Pickering Town.

Blott, 27, hit just shy of 250 goals for Boro since joining in 2007 - the club’s debut season.

He has cited personal reasons in his decision to move on, as well as saying that the club is moving too far away from being what it once was.

“I just want to thank the fans, during the time I spent at both the old and new clubs, they have been absolutely amazing,” he said.

“They have backed me from the start, even when things haven’t been easy.

“I would also like to thank the club’s chairman Dave Holland for his support over the years, especially when he went out of his way to help with the 112-day ban.”

Blott was given the opportunity to return to Boro for pre-season by the Boro management team of Steve Kittrick and Chris Bolder.

He added: “Going back to Scarborough Athletic for another season just doesn’t seem the right option for me at the moment.

“I have a young family now, so the amount of travelling is making things difficult

“I was disappointed with what Steve Kittrick had to say, but he’s the manager so that is up to him.

“It wasn’t ideal last season because I had a lot of injuries and I spent a bit of time not playing, so finding my rhythm wasn’t easy.

“At the moment the club just seems to be heading further and further away from the Scarborough team that I love.

“When I look back to the team that won the NCEL a few years ago, the home-based players we had and the spirit, it just makes me think that we should have been given a chance together.

“That wasn’t the case and since then things have drifted further and further away from Scarborough. Because of that I don’t think the club is right for me at the moment.

“I need a new challenge and I want to get back to enjoying my football once again.

“I’m definitely not ruling out returning in the future though, if the option is there.

“If things change and I can still perform at that level then I’d love to represent those fans once again.”
