Filey’s new look Post Office was officially opened this week – although organisers had a “mayor” deciding who should cut the ribbon!

Both Filey Mayor Richard Walker and Scarborough Mayor Helen Mallory were on hand at the opening, along with several leading Filey figures.

However, in the end both shared the honours, and Cllr Walker was quick to praise owner Ben Clibbens on the new-look service.

He said: “I’m delighted to join the Mayor of the Borough of Scarborough, Cllr Helen Mallory, in officially opening the new-look Filey Post Office.

“Mr Clibbens is to be congratulated on his work to develop the branch which will make a real difference for local residents and small business customers, vital in a thriving seaside town like ours.

“We all wish him continued success with his business.”

And Mr Clibbens added: “I was delighted to have the opportunity to modernise my Post Office and I know my customers will like the improvements and I’d like to thank everyone for coming and for my customers for
being patient during the building work.”

The modernisation is part of a three-year investment programme.
