Filey’s Tesco store has given almost £400 to Cancer Research UK in a generous gesture.

The cash had been given to the store for exceeding its target sales of the new Scarborough News, which retained its Filey and Hunmanby section in the new format change last year.

The store was one of a number of supermarkets and other outlets where sales of the paper were well above average (see page 42). Pictured are Steven Boyes, Theresa Gregory, Michelle Pickering and Carla Greenfield with their £339.30 cheque for Cancer Research UK.

Claire Wardle, regional retail sales manager, said: “We are delighted that so many retailers achieved more than this and have benefited financially for their hard work and commitment.

“We would like to thank all The Scarborough News retailers and our readers for their support.” Join the growing band of people who get The Scarborough each week – you can save 25% off each issue, paying just 75p, by subscribing.
