Residents of Bridlington and Scarborough are invited to a workshop on Tuesday 24 May at the Evron Centre at Filey from 2pm to find out more about getting involved with the Yorkshire Coast Communities Community Led Local Development Programme.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council, in partnership with Scarborough Borough Council, has been successful in securing development funding to prepare a Community Led Local Development Programme for Bridlington and Scarborough, which will form a funding bid to the European Structural Investment Fund 2014-2020.

The two towns could potentially benefit from between three and seven million euros of grant support over a five-year period from the European Social Fund and the European Regional Development Fund if a bid is successful at stage two.

Community workshops held along the coast in September 2015 provided feedback and information from the local community which was used as part of the application process.

Councillor Jane Evison said: “The next stage will involve encouraging local people to take the reins and form a Local Action Group or LAG (for short) that designs and oversees the implementation of the Local Development Strategy. The strategy needs to build on the social, environmental and economic strengths or ‘assets’ of the community, and Bridlington and Scarborough have a wide range of community assets that have the potential to help people in their neighbourhood benefit significantly through a wide range of activities over the next few years.”

The most important thing about this opportunity is that it must be led by the community with the Council’s role very much aiming to build local networks and reach parts of the community that might not normally be reached.
