A man has been arrested following a spate of house burglaries in the Filey area.
The offences were committed towards the end of September and the beginning of October where the majority of the properties targeted were unoccupied at the time.
The 38-year-old was arrested in Nottinghamshire earlier this week by Nottinghamshire Police in connection with offences in their area.
He is currently in their custody and will eventually be questioned by North Yorkshire detectives in relation to the burglaries committed in Filey.
Sergeant Tracy Smith, of Filey Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “These incidents have caused alarm for the residents of Filey and I hope this latest development gives them an amount of reassurance.
“Anyone who has any concerns about safety and security should not hesitate to contact their local Safer Neighbourhood Team on 101, call in to the local police station at the Evron Centre on John Street, or drop into one of our surgeries.
“We have two events coming up, one at Filey Elderly Persons Club on Thursday 18 October at 10am to 11am and another at Age UK on Belle Vue Street on Monday 22 October between 3pm and 4pm. We look forward to seeing you.”
“In the meantime, we encourage everyone to make life difficult for thieves and be security conscious as the dark nights draw in. Make use of timer switches when you go out, don’t leave valuables on display and make sure you lock your doors and windows, even if you are at home.
“If you are going away, leave your lights on timer switches and arrange for a key holder to make regular checks. If at all worried please contact Filey Police Station and a local officer will be happy to visit and give you some crime prevention advice.
“We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the residents in the areas affected by the burglaries for their valuable assistance and information.”
