Mystery surrounds a bizarre incident in Hunmanby, after a man was seen being bundled into the back of a van against his will.

Eyewitnesses claim a group of what appeared to be workers were seen grappling with the man, before they forced him into the back of the vehicle in White Gate Hill.

Police say they are remaining “open minded” about the incident, and state that it’s possible that it was just a group of work colleagues messing around.

However, they have not ruled out the possibility that it’s something more sinister, and have urged any more witnesses to come forward.

The incident happened at around 8pm on Friday September 20, and the group that bundled him into the van appeared to be wearing work clothes.

It appeared that the man did not want to be in the back of the white van, which is described as similar to a Citroen Berlingo or Peugeot Partner with no writing on the side and a grill behind the driver’s seat.

Detective Inspector Darrin Knight, of Scarborough CID, said “We remain open minded regarding this incident. It could be a group of friends playing a prank, or some other innocent explanation.

“We would, however, like to speak to those involved, or anyone else who may have seen this incident in order to confirm what had happened.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2, and ask for Scarborough CID.

If you would prefer to remain anonymous, information can be passed to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
