Kids’ putt in a good show

LOCAL children got into the swing of things thanks to a community golf initiative aiming to get more young people into the sport.

For a third year running, Filey Golf Club has welcomed school children from the area to the grounds, with club members teaching the youngsters about the game and techniques in introductory sessions.

Around 120 Year 5 and 6 children took part from Filey Junior School, and teacher John Logue said it’s had a positive effect.

He said: “The event came about with Filey Golf Club promoting getting junior children into playing golf. Hopefully its having an impact on juniors playing golf at Filey Golf Club.

“It’s been very good and we can’t thank Filey Golf Club enough for giving us the opportunity to visit them.”
