FILEY and District University of the Third Age is stepping up its search for new members after enjoying a flourishing start.

The organisation, which provides learning experiences for people no longer in full time employment, attracted 57 new members to its first meeting last month.

Run by local volunteers, the university allows members to work together and share social and intellectual experiences in various different activities through online courses.

Groups including theatre, walking, singing, creative writing and sea shanties were quickly established on the night, with further activities such as computers, wine appreciation and family history currently being planned.

There is no lower age limit for members and no qualifications are needed or awarded.

The group’s next meeting will be on Thursday, August 25 in the Evron Centre concert hall from 10.30am, where a representative from Filey Library will outline the resources the facility has to offer.
