Big turn out for annual fun run
Submitted The Filey 10km race Submitted 04/10/12
Hundreds of runners descended on Filey for this year’s annual Filey 10km race.
The race, which was held last Sunday, drew huge crowds of spectators as athletes of all ages embarked on the gruelling cross-country dash.
The race sees runners from all over the region, and beyond, make their way around the six mile course.
Starting in Filey’s Country Park, runners travel approximately 1KM down the road to the beach.
The race continues out and back towards Flamborough Head. Then, after the gruelling slog, the real sting in the tail is the last kilometre from the beach to the Country Park.
A short 500 metre steep climb awaits competitors, before a final 500 metre loop around the headland to the finish line.
The winner was Scarborough Athlete Mark Colling, who was runner up last year.
And organiser Sam Cross said: “It was a real success.
“We had really good numbers running this year, and the suns hone.
“Next year, we hope to make it even bigger and better with even more runners.”
