Company apologise after series of faults with post

The Royal Mail has apologised over a catalogue of problems to the post in Filey.

The postal service has
said sorry after changes stemming from the closure of the sorting office in the town resulted in ongoing issues with the post.

Complaints made to the Mercury include:

• Postal delivery workers having to take on extra work, resulting in delays to the post arriving

•Post not being delivered until late at night

•Letters and birthday cards arriving around a week after they were posted first class

•Mail allegedly not being sorted in time for delivery

The complaints have been made by residents in Filey, and it follows the decision to axe the sorting office earlier this month and move the operation to Aberdeen Walk in Scarborough.

Royal Mail’s Heulyn Gwyn Davies said: “We sincerely apologise for the slight delay in the delivery of mail in some parts of Filey.

“This has been caused by staff shortages but we have been working very hard to ensure that all mail is delivered as soon as possible so that we can provide the high level of service expected by customers.”

Anybody with problems, please call the Royal Mail helpline on 0845 601 1399.
