Councillors set to make turbine decision
Controversial plans to build a trio of wind turbines in the Southern area could be thrown out by councillors, after planning officers recommended them for rejection.
Proposals to develop two 100ft turbines in Gristhorpe, along with plans to build a similar sized mast in Reighton, are both likely to be rejected following the recommendations.
The Reighton application, at Reighton Nurseries, is set to be rejected following an objection from the Ministry of Defence.
A similar application, in Hunmanby, was rejected recently due to a similar objection from the Government department.
However, councillors said they had sympathy with the applicant, with some saying that their hands were tied due to the MOD’s objection.
The application to build two identical masts at Grange Farm, in Gristhorpe, is also set to be rejected.
This follows concerns raised by planning officers on the effect the two white blades would have on the landscape.
Both applications, which have been staunchly opposed by anti-wind campaigners, have been submitted by Hallmark Power Ltd.
The company hopes to “rent”land at both Reighton Nurseries and Grange Farm to install the masts.
The 50kw turbines, which measure 34.2m to the tip of the blade, would be used to generate energy for the national grid.
A decision will be made this afternoon at the Planning and Development Committee meeting at Scarborough Town Hall.
