A dog miraculously survived after plunging 150ft down a cliff near Filey last night.

Scarborough, Filey and Burniston Coastguard teams were called out at 7.30pm following reports of a dog toppling over the cliff at the Blue Dolphin caravan park.

Rescuers quickly carried out a cliff-top search before two cliff technicians were lowered on ropes to the ground below where they eventually located the frightened pet.

The dog was then hauled back up the cliff where it was found to be relatively unharmed after incredibly surviving the 150ft drop.

It was eventually reunited with its relieved owners at around 11.30pm following the dramatic four-hour rescue.

Mark Appleby, Scarborough Coastguard’s station manager, said: “This dog was extremely fortunate to survive a drop from this height unharmed.

“To avoid incidents like this, dogs being walked on cliff tops should be kept on leads at all times.”
