Harmony group finally call it quits

A long-standing musical group, which has entertained Filey for half a century, has finally decided to call it quits.

The Filey Fisherman’s Harmony Group initially folded at the back end of 2012. Members decided to keep the club alive after a big appeal in the Mercury to boost their dwindling ranks.

However, despite several enquiries from interested parties, the remaining three members have decided that it’s time to call time on the group.

“We have now folded. We just can’t keep giving a go of it,” said member Raymond Upton.

The three remaining members are all aged over 70, and Mr Upton said he was sad that no young men in the town wanted to maintain the tradition.

“We have had a few female singers enquire about it from Hunmanby, but it’s a male group – it’s a tradition,” he said.

“It’s very sad, but I would just like to thank the town for their support over the past 50 years.

“We will all still meet up for a pint though!”
