Swift justice for burglar
A burglar has been convicted after landing in the dock less than a day after he was arrested.
34-year-old Kevin Michael Jennings of Mitford Street, Filey appeared at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court today (Monday 28 January 2013), less than 24 hours after being arrested.
He was charged with one offence of burglary and one offence of handling stolen goods.
He was arrested on suspicion of burglary at 6.40pm on Sunday 27 January 2013, after he was seen leaving an outbuilding at Hylands Residential Home on The Crescent, Filey, carrying a box of property which he dropped when challenged by staff.
Officers attended the incident and carried out local enquiries and arrested Jennings at his home in Mitford Street.
A search of his home address also revealed suspected stolen property, including a mobile phone and a camera which had been stolen from a member of the public at a nightclub in December 2012.
He was charged with handling stolen goods in respect of this property.
Jennings pleaded guilty to both offences at court and was given a 16-week jail sentence, suspended for 12 months and was ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.
