Triathlon Jack ‘thrilled’ with India’s progress

The mother of a Filey boy who raised hundreds of pounds for India Robertson to undergo life-chaning surgery beleives she will go from “strength to strength”.

Kind-hearted Jack Lawrence undertook a gruelling triathlon around his home town to raise money for his 11-year-friend India to fly to St Louis for for a corrective procedure to allow her to walk unassisted.

Both Jack and India both suffer from cerebral palsy, and India recently returned from the United States after her operation, and able to walk further than ever.

Jack’s mum Debbie said that her son was thrilled to see India’s progress, saying: “He was made-up.

“Jack went to the local shop, and saw it on the newstands, and he went ‘get me a copy!”

In total, £67,000 was raised throughout the region to send India to the states for the procedure, which is called a selective dorsal rhizotomy.

Both youngsters had to fly to St Louis for the operation, as it’s still not available in this country.

However, Debbie said progress is being made in bringing the operation to the UK, with a doctor from Leeds looking at opening a specialist centre.

And Jack’s fundraising efforts are not over yet.

He is planning on raising money for another boy, Noah, although he is still unsure how.

Ever since his operation, Jack has made up for lost time, trying a variety of different sports and actiitites.

He has developed a keen interest in table tennis, and has said that he would perhaps like to fundraise through the sport.

India has also raised money for charity through a swim.
