The Chairman of Filey in Bloom has praised one of the leading figures behind the towns Britain in Bloom bid.
Mrs Marion Wright has praised the work of Scarborough Council’s Parks and Garden Team Leader for Filey, John Sellers.
She made the comments after awarding him the Chairman’s Trophy for 2012 at the recent Best Kept Gardens Competition for his efforts and dedication to the town.
She said: “John moved heaven and earth to ensure that the town looked beautiful when national In Bloom judges visited Filey on 6 August.
“However it’s not just for one day that we need to look good, Filey is an all year round resort and we want to look good for our visitors twelve months of the year.
“In his role as the town’s head gardener John makes this happen and we are very lucky to have him.”
Mrs Wright hosted the awards ceremony and paid tribute to the many individuals and groups who had contributed greatly to the town during the year, praising those who had gone above and beyond the call of duty in keeping ‘Filey Smiley’.
Britain in Bloom Award results are announced on October 6 in Guernsey.
