A DEADLINE to put forward suggestions for the future of Hunmanby Library is looming closer.
The Friends of Hunmanby Library are holding a meeting next month to save the facility from potential closure.
The library could shut next March if North Yorkshire County Council fails to attract sufficient voluntary support to man its services under £1.7 million cash cuts.
The authority has brought forward a key deadline to secure such backing to the end of August, leaving residents facing an anxious month to try and secure a feasible alternative to maintain the library.
The situation intensified after council chiefs classified the library as a grade three facility, meaning it would only receive regularly updated book stocks and training for potential volunteers.
The Friends of Hunmanby Library are holding a meeting in All Saints Church, on Tuesday, August 9.
Anyone with suggestions should contact Hunmanby Parish Council on (01723) 891479 before Friday, August 5.
