SUPERMARKET giant Tesco has unveiled plans to erect a new gantry sign at its Filey store.
The company has submitted proposals to Scarborough Council to put up the 6.1 metre perspex structure outside its shop in Station Avenue.
The sign would feature the store’s opening hours and departments and be blue, red, white and black in colour.
A spokesperson for the company said: “An application was submitted in September last year for a gantry sign which proposed the sign was located on the site’s exit road.
“Scarborough Council Estates department objected to the application based on the location of the proposed gantry sign.
“However, planning permission was granted, but although planning permission has been granted, Scarborough Estates are still not happy with the proposed location.
“A site meeting was held in April with representatives of Filey Town Council, Mike Close from the Estates department and local councillors in order to agree a location and proposed detail for the sign.
“Overall, it is considered that this proposed design and location for the gantry sign is now acceptable to the Estates department.”
A decision on the application is expected to be made later this month.
