VILLAGERS in Muston are planning their own celebration of next month’s royal wedding.
The event is being organised by the Muston Millennium Committee in partnership with the parish council and will be held from 4.30pm on Friday, April 29, until late.
Spokesman Godfrey Allanson said people were being asked to dress up as much or as little as they liked, with a fancy dress competition for all ages.
“They can wear any costume they like for a wedding party - whether it’s coming as a chimney sweep or in a top hat and tails.”
Villagers will first be asked to gather on the green at 4.30pm for a group photo - similar to the aerial shot of residents taken to mark the Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1977.
The event will then move to the village hall for a wedding buffet and tea complete with wedding cake, along with games, a quiz and commemorative presents handed out to all age groups. It will finish with music and a bar until 9pm.
Cllr Allanson said everyone in the village should have received a form by now and he needed them back as soon as possible to plan for numbers.
“It should be a great village get-together,” he added. “We’ve had a good response so far, and we’d like as many people as possible to be in the picture so we can look back and remember in years to come.”
