Crossing jam leads to traffic backlog

The level crossing on Station Avenue across to Muston Road malfunctioned on Thursday evening, with the barriers up, but the warning lights and siren working, leading to jams as motorists cautiously stopped. MOTORISTS in Filey saw their travel plans briefly derailed after the town’s railway crossing malfunctioned.

Scores of drivers were left confused around 7pm on Thursday evening after the crossing, in Muston Road, began flashing its warning lights and blaring sirens – while its barriers remained upright.

Drivers were forced to stop, with some cautiously travelling over the crossing for fear of oncoming trains.

However, the problem was soon fixed and traffic was flowing smoothly again within an hour.
