HUNMANBY children have sown the seeds for future success after playing their part in helping a community garden to grow.

The children were joined by parents and volunteers at Hunmanby Library for the Grow Your Own Storytime event.

Armed with trowels and seedlings, the children got to work planting this year’s crop during the scheme which was designed to give them a headstart in gardening.

Jane Parker, the library’s communication information officer, said: “This is the second year we have done the garden and it was all part of the BBC Dig In campaign.

“It has worked really well and we want it to become a community garden for everyone to enjoy.

“We have had help from members of Hunmanby in Bloom to look after it and when the seeds start to grow people will be encouraged to pick the vegetables when they come to the library.

“We always have a storytime on a Friday and this was a special half-term event for them to get involved.”
