RESIDENTS across Filey and Hunmanby are being encouraged to nominate their local champions for a special award.

The Borough’s Big Thank You Awards are back allowing people to say “thank you” to members of the community who help others and carry out good deeds.

Categories in the awards include Young Achievers, Good Neighbour, Courage over Adversity and Care and Support in the Community.

Gongs also feature Heritage and the Environment, Charitable Fundraising and Performing, Artistic or Cultural Endeavours

And for 2012, a Uniformed Youth Groups category has been added to recognise the dedication of those involved in organisations such as the Air Cadets, Sea Cadets, the Scout movement and Boys’ Brigade.

Nomination forms are available online via the council’s website at www.scarborough.gov.uk and on the Filey and Hunmanby Mercury website by logging on to www.fileymercury.co.uk

See Monday’s Scarborough Evening News for the full nomination form.

The deadline for nominations is February 28 2012.

Judging will take place on March 7.

All nominees will be invited to a presentation evening at Scarborough’s Spa Complex on Thursday, April 26, from 6pm, which will include entertainment and refreshments.

The awards are put together in conjunction with Scarborough Council and are kindly supported by Riverside Motors Seamer.
