Letter: Great venue is just left as an eyesore now

Great theatre has fallen under the philosophy of Scarborough Borough Council, ie, spend nothing on maintenance and left to become nothing but an eyesore.

Re the Futurist: I fail to see why all the fuss is created about this once great Scarborough attraction. I was born just over a few hundred yards to the north of this theatre some 80 years ago. Over the years I have visited this theatre many times and seen some fantastic shows.

But like many other great attractions of Scarborough, this has fallen under the philosophy of Scarborough Borough Council, ie, spend nothing on maintenance and left to become nothing but an eyesore, then decide to do something about it, ie, spend £5m to demolish a great venue and replace it with a Sputnik or the likes.

Re the gull swoops: The council finally takes action.

A bird of prey can be used. It will take taxpayers’ money to employ a falconer, although anyone can see there are plenty of birds of prey around the cliffs and villages of Scarborough.

They do not bother the sea birds, so why employ a falconer?
