YOUNGSTERS at Filey Junior School have been getting tips from the experts as part of a new scheme to introduce children to golf.
After getting a taste for the sport on the school playground, about 30 children got to try out their skills at Filey Golf Club.

Organiser and club vice-captain John Spaven said: “They already do work with a professional from Snainton and we thought it would be a good idea if we could introduce them to a golf club and let them play on the putting green.

“We were really lucky with the weather, and the kids loved it – there were lots of positive vibes. What I really like is it’s part of the school curriculum now, and hopefully we will implement it more next year.”

Filey Golf Club has not had a junior section for the last two years, and Mr Spaven is hoping to recruit some of the budding Tiger Woods, as well as extending the scheme to other schools such as Hunmanby and Sherburn.

Weekly coaching sessions are also offered by the club.
