SCARBOROUGH Rugby Club's new £4million multi-purpose sports facility is right on track for 2009.
The development has been going to plan with work actually slightly ahead of schedule on the site on Scalby Road just north of Silver Royd.

Project Manager Graeme Young said: “This is a monumental development for not only Scarborough Rugby Club but also for sport in the town in general.

“A lot of hard work is going into this project and the scale and the size of the facility is amazing.

“We wanted to produce something that the whole town can be proud of and we believe we are well on the way in achieving that.

“Everything has been going according to plan and we are very hopeful to be ready in time for mid-January next year and I can’t wait to see it completed.”

The club’s current ground will be demolished and a new health village built on that site.

Young added: “We needed to move because the current ground is dated and there are people involved with the club who were willing to back the move and it is down to the likes of John Guthrie and Andrew Pindar that this has become a reality.

“One of the vital things is that the public can use the facility and it will also provide opportunities to schools, colleges and clubs to benefit from.

“We are proud of what we are doing and I am sure a lot of people will take advantage of a superb facility.”

So what will the new facility include?

Clubhouse facility with 200 plus capacity, coachpark to hold six full size coaches, car park to hold over 300 vehicles, conference room, eight changing rooms, two squash courts, aerobics gymnasium, weights gymnasium, four playing pitches, four training pitches.
