FILEY Town were heading north to Fishburn Park today aiming to get their Saturday League division one season back on track after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Kez Keary’s team have been out of action since December 12, and will have been praying for a return to action today at the Whitby-based club, 2pm kick-off.
Hunmanby United did get back on the pitch last week, but may have wished they hadn’t after
suffering a 4-2 defeat at struggling Ayton.
United took the lead when Adrian Hammond hit the net, but Carl Sample’s strike from distance restored parity.
Rich Thomas’ close-range effort handed Ayton the ascendancy as the game moved into the second half.
Ayton didn’t stop there, as Steve Roberts volleyed them further ahead and striker Chris Stubbings made it four.
Hunmanby hit a late consolation when Lee Johnson scored.
The Sands Lane outfit were looking to get back on winning form at home to basement club Scalby this afternoon.
Filey Town Reserves were, like their first team, sidelined by the weather yet again last week.
Jay Taylor’s team will have been eyeing a home win today against Rillington.
FC Filey will look to continue their fine form at home to Weaponness Park Rangers in the Sunday League third division tomorrow, 10.30am ko.
Filey dug deep for a 5-3 home win against Pirates last weekend.
The visitors raced into a 3-0 lead in the first half, but a goal from Liam Sugden before half-time gave Filey hope. The hosts roared into action after the break, Sugden completing his hat-trick and Scott Sheldon and Mark Sayers also on target.
Sub Lee Lambert played a key part in turning the game in Filey’s favour, with Gary Colling and centre-back Dave Mitchell also in inspired form.
