Beckett League: Valley stunned by Ebberston

Forge Valley’s Readers Scarborough Beckett Cricket League premier division title bid was wrecked by a surprise 62-run defeat at Ebberston.

Despite the home side reaching 182 before being dismissed, second-placed Valley must have been hopeful of passing this score with the batsmen at their disposal.

Jame wins Tindall’s 3-53 included a hat-trick, while ex-Ebberston bowler bagged 3-57. Matty Turnbull led the Ebberston run-scoring with a fluent 67, Ben Lockey adding 47 and Damian Readman 24. Eddie Craggs then ripped through the Valley batting order with final figures of 6-43, Turnbull capping a superb all-round day with 4-60, Mick Glew the only Valley batsman to impress with 28.

Another all-rounder on top form was Flixton 2nds’ Aussie Caleb Grant who smacked 58 and then took 5-58 in his side’s 78 run success at home to struggling Cloughton.

Lee Oliver’s astonishing 9-36 helped Staithes 2nds coast to a six-wicket win against Wykeham 2nds in division C.

In an amazinggame at Forge Valley 2nds in division B, Scarborough 3rds lost out by 51 runs despite Jake Finnigan’s 134.

Valley posted a massive 255-9 thanks to Daz Arnott’s 94, valuable support coming from skipper Sean Pinder (35) and Nick Cook (43), Chris Hunter taking 5-81.

The visitors fell short despite Finnigan’s efforts, reaching 204-5.

Division A leaders Filey edged to a one-wicket win at Settrington.

Second-team bowler Lee Plant found it easy to step up from Derwent Valley League division C, bagging 4-26 as Filey dismissed Settrington for 160, Paul Bowes also taking 4-56, George Rounthwaite falling two runs short of his half-century and Jonty Rounthwaite adding 37.

Eddie and Jonty Rounthwaite then took four wickets apiece as the Clarence Drive club edged their way to victory, Bowes hitting 32, Phil Dickens 28 and Aaron Howard 33.
