Derwent Valley League division C leaders Filey 2nds have been deducted the 20 points earned in defeating Snainton on Sunday June 30 for fielding players who had turned out for their first team the day before, breaking league rules.
As well as the leaders losing 20 points this means that Snainton now get the 10 points for a win plus the seven points gained for batting and bowling points in the game - a total of 17 points.
Filey 2nds admitted in a letter that they played ineligible players and have now conceded the game to Snainton.
The Clarence Drive club remain top of the table as they were due to play Thornton Dale 3rds on Saturday, but their resignation means that all teams due to playing them are awarded 20 points.
Snainton are now firmly in a very close promotion race in division C, the villagers’ latest success a 44-run win at fellow promotion-chasers Wykeham 3rds.
Former first-team duo Michael Eyre (43) and Paul Nicholson (32) offered support to stalwart Alan Huby (50) as Snainton posted 186-9.
Robin Shepherdson was the pick of the home bowlers with 3-20 and the veteran then smashed 70 and Nick Ellis blasted 46 but the bowling of Ryan Bellerby (5-31) proved too strong as they slipped to 142 all out.
Cayton 3rds missed out on the chance to reduce the gap between themselves in second place and Filey 2nds as they sank to a shock 47-run loss at home to Ravenscar 2nds, boosting the latter’s hopes of promotion.
Opener Jon Stokoe top-scored with 55, and his second-wicket stand of 85 with Andy Bloomfield (41) helped the visitors post 132-5.
It was then the turn of Luke Stokoe - Jon’s son - to lead the way with the ball, his swing bowling earning him figures of 5-30 as Cayton were dismissed for 85.
Scalby 3rds’ hopes of promotion also took a dent as they also suffered a shock loss by six wickets at Forge Valley 4ths, Steven Boyes’ unbeaten 77 steering Valley home.
In the battle of the unbeaten sides at the top of division B, Flamborough hit two from the final ball of the match to win by four wickets at home to Flixton 3rds.
Josh Till (56) and Liam Lowery (39) helped the visitors to 139-6, but it was fine knocks of 48 from Andy Dixon and 35 from Mel Dixon that paved the way for Flamborough’s dramatic win which leaves them just two points behind leaders Flixton.
Neil Ward retired after hammering 126 in Nawton Grange 2nds’ 96-run win at Sherburn 2nds, while Lockton kept in tpouch with the top two with a 23-run triumph at relegation-haunted Seamer 3rds, Rory Lancaster smashing 73 for the victors.
Kirkbymoorside 2nds are also in the hunt for promotion after hammering lowly Sewerby 4ths by 158 runs.
James Magson top-scored with 52 as the Moorsiders posted a strong 210-8, and first-team player Daniel Jeminson showed his quality with 4-1 as the basement club were sent packing for just 52 runs, Jez Underwood also taking 3-18.
Great Habton and Mulgrave are still the dominant teams in division A after comfortable home wins against Sewerby 3rds and Hospitals/Rugby Club repectively.
Leaders Mulgrave amassed a superb 262-4 thanks to 77 from Andrew Thompson, then Michael Thompson’s 5-22 helped skittle the visitors for 105.
Habton openers George Harrison (74no) and John Lumley (37no)secured Habton’s win after Rob Searby, with a dogged 32 not out from 40 overs, helped the away team post 119-5.
