Thornton Dale earned a 4-1 home win against Bagby & Balk to boost their flagging fortunes in Beckett League division one.

Right-sided midfielder John Ellis was man of the match, and he also netted one of the four goals, Dale’s top marksman David Elliot netting his fifth goal in six matches this campaign.

Centre-back Paul Simpson and striker Simon King also got their names on the scoresheet.

Following some encouraging performances in recent weeks Kirkdale United found the visit of Kirkbymoorside Reserves a tougher assignment suffering a 6-0 home defeat.

From the start Kirkby took control and didn’t really release it for the whole match but Kirkdale were guilty of gift wrapping several of the goals, the first from Jason Brown on 12 minutes started it off and a second four minutes late from Jack Chadwick, when both should have been prevented.

Confidence clearly drained from the team and yet another error in the 35th minute allowed Chadwick a free run on goal to make it 3-0.

Alex Croall up front for Kirkdale had Kirkdale’s best moments and when he was joined up front by recent signing Graham Atkinson, they showed a good understanding and it went close to an opening goal on his debut but his shot was blocked as it was goal bound.

Kirkby increased their lead when Brown added the fourth in the 76th minute and following a good ball over the top in the 83rd minute he made it 5-0 to complete his hat-trick.

A poor clearance straight to the Kirkby skipper in the 88th minute allowed Moorsiders man of the match Brown to run in unopposed to add the sixth and complete the scoring.

Man of the match for Kirkdale United was Croall.

In the final game in the top flight, Norton United grabbed a late 1-0 win at Heslerton.

In the first half, Heslerton’s Chris Bell hit the post from a James Mcloughlin corner, and Simon Oxendale headed over from five yards with the goal at his mercy.

Top scorer Dave Thompson was thrown on with half an hour to go in search of the winner, but within 10 minutes he was shown a straight red after colliding with the visitors keeper.

The hosts thought they’d grabbed all three points two minutes from time when Billy Bown dribbled round the Norton box and slid the ball across the goalline for sub Rory Darley to tap in, but the United keeper kept it out.

As the game entered injury-time, Heslerton’s miserable day was made complete, when a Norton breakaway from a throw in saw their midfielder scramble the ball in to the net and completely steal the points.
