Derek Exley’s column: Delighted with team’s winning response

I was very pleased with the lads’ performance on Saturday - we had a chat before the game and I let them know how unhappy I was with the Grangetown game and I got a positive response.

We obviously had a lot of players missing last weekend and it showed.

As a manager you want to be able to turn around to your bench and see players who are going to make a real impact on a match.

Everyone agreed that we needed to pull our sleeves up and bounce back, and we did just that against Hodgsons.

Neil Thomas was excellent in the centre of the park and was our man of the match.

Sean Exley obviously scored a hat-trick and you can’t ask for more from your strikers can you?

Martin Cooper is another player who has come in recently and done really well.

He is a great lad who has a good attitude and he grafts for the team as well.

I have to mention Rob Clark in goal too. He didn’t have a massive amount to do in the game, but when he was called upon, he did really well.

Aidan Thomas is another youngster who has come on a lot too and is progressing very well.
