Long-serving Scarborough & District FA member Brian Crawford signed off after 55 years in local football on Monday night.

Crawford’s last task was to take in a thrilling District Cup final between Newlands Park and Ayton at Bridlington’s Queensgate.

He originally started as a player for Scarborians in 1957, before moving on to referee in 1964.

Brian then became secretary of the Scarborough & District League for 10 years and did a stint as the referees secretary for the NCE League.

He also boasts a spell of 18 years on the North Riding FA, while Brian also became an agent for Scarborough Football Club’s lottery when their base was on Bar Street.

He said: “I’ve had a great time, but I just think I’ve done my stint.

“I will miss being involved in Scarborough football because I have worked with some great people over the years.

“There are plenty of highlights, but my favourite was the first floodlit game at the Athletic Ground between Scarborough and Huddersfield when I was linesman and Keith Sales was referee.”
