WEST Pier and Newlands both collected wins to maintain the pressure on leaders Edgehill.

Newlands took on Filey Town and picked up a crucial 1-0 win to stay in the hunt.

Shaun Mancrief’s men had a tough task against a robust and determined Filey outfit, but a superb strike from Paddy Mancrief was enough to collect a massive three points that gives them hope of securing the title.

Pier had an easier game on paper, but Westover Wasps provided a stern test for their visitors.

Westover had the lion’s share of the ball but couldn’t find the back of the net.

Pier took advantage of that after 35 minutes when Paul Provins’ free-kick evaded everyone in the box and sneaked in.

Westover continued to battle but a Neil Thomas goal after 65 minutes gave Pier the cushion they needed and the win was secured.

They were indebted to defender James Wardle, who produced a stunning headed clearance off the line after keeper Paul Robinson had been beaten.

Sherburn look doomed to relegation after they lost 2-1 at home to lacklustre Scalby.

Sherburn took a 1-0 lead into half-time through a Carl Hepples strike.

Scalby missed a plethora of chances, with Craig Rackham spurning a hat-trick of opportunities.

But they finally managed their win when Rich Simpson and Adam Stride both netted.

Flixton look the most likely to be joining them after they lost 4-1 to Cayton.

Goals from Neil Fryirs, Macie Kapzynski, Mikey Dennis and Matty Perry sealed the win for Shaun Rennison’s men.

Hunmanby United are still in danger of being dragged into a dramatic late battle to avoid the drop after they lost at Ayton.

Howard Carter netted three for Tony Ross’ men while goals for Luke Jones and Carl Sample sealed a 5-0 victory.
